I seek choices in my perspective—what am I looking at, and what do I want to say about it? In a way, my art is a response to a question one part of myself is asking another. I’m fascinated by the interplay between observation, design, and mark-making—usually through subjects inspired by nature, movement, or adventure.
I’m often captivated by the profound, simple beauty in the world around us—sometimes fleeting, like a flicker of light that can only be painted from memory. Other times, it’s something weathered and rooted, a structure that’s stood through seasons and will be there tomorrow. My paintings are a technical reaching for something remembered or observed, abstracted in a way that lets me answer the question I’m asking myself about it.
We see what we’re looking for—and when I paint, I try to see something specific. It’s a hunting trip. I’m sneaking up on something, a form, a thought. I often begin with words in a sketchbook, then a sketch, and then the painting begins.
For me, painting is the moment when imagination collapses into form. It’s the alchemy of attention—where thought becomes visible, and something deeply felt can be shared, remembered, and hung on a wall. I’m grateful to be a painter. No matter what else is happening, I can find myself, here in this space. It’s where my core lives.
